Shipping
Our team was appointed by the vessel owner to conduct an independent assessment of nickel ore cargo prior to loading, ensuring compliance with IMSBC Code requirements and confirming that the cargo was safe for carriage.
During our inspection, we observed that the cargo supplied by the shipper in the barges appeared wet and saturated, with the samples failing the can test, indicating a high liquefaction risk. To verify its suitability, we collected representative samples and carried out Moisture Content and FMP/TML testing. The laboratory results confirmed that the moisture content exceeded the Transportable Moisture Limit (TML). Based on these findings, we advised the vessel owner to reject the cargo, preventing a potentially hazardous loading operation and eliminating the risk of cargo liquefaction during the voyage.
